AMELIE'S STORY
Two decades ago I began my military journey, first as an airman, then a milSpouse. Throughout my military journey, we learned to work together through all the ups and downs of military life, making lifelong friends in just a few months, saying good-bye within a year or two, and participating in unit events to meet other families and build that sense of community we loved.
After 3 PCSs, a dozen or so deployments, numerous TDYs, 1 hurricane flooded basement (during a deployment of course), 1 unexpected move (again during a deployment), and 1 nightmare base house (flea infested, freezing pipes & a sewer back up), we found ourselves on one final move across the country, this time in reverse with 2 toddlers and retirement just a few months ahead.
We made lots of money mistakes along the way, some with lots of zeros. 10 years of learning and adapting our money plan allowed us to choose our dream retirement community, build a forever home and volunteer in our new community more than ever before. We found we can share a piece of what we learned from the military with our civilian community – that generous giving comes in many forms and builds a greater community when we all help each other.
